Favorite Florida Summer Reading

By | July 7th, 2015|

By Dee Paul Thunder and lightning at the airport. Not the most encouraging scenario. A while back I was waiting for my flight amid a huge thunderstorm and decided I needed a good book to read on the plane to take my mind off the weather. While perusing interesting titles, I picked up a Carl Hiasson book, “Skinny Dip.” Immediately a nearby traveler started telling me (gushing really) about how incredibly funny the book was – that I would actually “laugh out loud!” Turns out she was right. I’d never read Florida’s premier satirist before but was drawn in to his witty, profound, and hilarious style. I’m glad I started with “Skinny Dip” because it’s a great way to become acquainted with Hiasson’s zaniness. The plot is extraordinary: A young woman is found naked in the Gulf of Mexico clinging to a bale of marijuana after being thrown off a cruise ship by her nefarious husband. She and her rescuer then devise a cunning revenge scheme. Sound intriguing? Next time you stay with us here at Inn At The Beach, ask if we can lend you a copy from our book lending closet. […]
