The Venetian Waterway Trail travels along both sides of the Intracoastal Waterway, which gives you views of boats cruising the waters and even dolphins swimming through. The Legacy Trail is a brand-new rails-to-trails project linking Venice to Sarasota with a paved path through various ecological areas.
Venice beaches have their own unique characteristics worthy of exploring on your Venice vacation. Visit the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce to grab a map so you can navigate the stunning, sandy shoreline of the region. If you’re traveling with your dog, check out the local Paw Park at Brohard Beach for some fun in the water. For family trips, investigate Red Lake for pavilions and playgrounds little ones will love. Try a famous “Jetty Dog” at South Jetty where surfers love to ride the waves.
Saltwater and freshwater fishing
Venice boasts both saltwater and freshwater fishing conveniently located at either end of the same street. On the west end of Venice Avenue fish in the salt waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and at the east end, cast your line into the fresh waters of Myakka River. There’s also the Venice Fishing Pier on Harbor Drive that rents poles and sells bait so you can enjoy fishing without bringing your own gear. Venice offers several locations where you can rent kayaks, canoes, boats, and jet skis.
Venice Area Audubon Society
For bird lovers, the Venice Area Audubon Society offers birding walks, eagle watch, bird identification classes and more. Visit their Welcome Center and nearby Bird Sanctuary/Rookery to learn about Florida’s beautiful birds.
