Snook Haven’s history is truly fascinating, as it was once used by moonshine smugglers during Prohibition in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Its remote location was perfect for this purpose as it is upstream from the Gulf of Mexico which makes it ideal to land and ship illegal goods.
Hollywood got in on the action, making movies at Snook Haven, and it eventually became a private fishing camp. Sarasota County purchased the property in 2006 in an effort to protect the property and its history.
